Ipswich is emerging as an
exciting tourist destination in South East Queensland. Located
40 minutes drive from Brisbane and 60 minutes drive from the
Gold Coast, Ipswich is easily accessible by car, bus or rail.
The Ipswich area was first explored as a consequence of the
penal settlement at Moreton Bay. A second convict settlement
was established in Ipswich in 1827 due to the limestone discovered
there. In 1842 the area was opened up for free settlement and
was to rose to some prosperity on the sheep's back with the
Bremer river being an important shipping waterway. Ipswich was
even considered for the capital town of the state eventually
losing out to Brisbane, however in the 1860s the |

area had a population not much less than Brisbane's.
Following a slump in the late 1860s the real period of economic
and population growth took place in the 1870s helped along by
coal mining.
Grange Road Paint & Hardware in Grange Road, Eastern
Heights (3 km east of Ipswich) is one of the earliest users
of The Retailer POS software. The store initially purchased
the then ground breaking Retailer software in the 1980’s
and did use the original package for nearly 20 years to the
fullest satisfaction of the owners. Only a breakdown of the
old mechanical cash register did force the store to make the
change to the new 21st century Windows version. With some effort
and a lot of good luck we were able to convert the data through
the many software changes over the past 20 years and the |

shop was changed over without any major inconvenience. Sure, there
were many new features to discover in the new version, but 1980’s
Retailer was so far ahead of its time that even the latest version
does follow the brilliant logic of the original design. |
